Video transmission is expected to dominate 79% of current global internet traffic with an annual growth rate of 31% by 2020. With this trend, the advancement of video compression technology becomes more important to alleviate radically increasing internet traffic. This article introduces a brief status of DNN-based Video Coding (DNNVC) related activities, current issues in the DNNVC MPEG ad-hoc group, and its standardization efforts.
