6G Innovation Lab
Inventing the next generation of cellular networks
Ofinno’s 6G Innovation Lab is helping define the next generation of cellular technology. With more than a decade of wireless research and active contributions across multiple 3GPP working groups, Ofinno is not waiting for 6G to arrive — our researchers are shaping what it will be.
Driving breakthroughs in 6G architecture and standards
The evolution from one generation of cellular technology to the next is driven by global research, innovation, and standards collaboration. Ofinno’s researchers are active contributors to 3GPP — the international standards body defining 6G — working across the physical layer, protocol architecture, and system design. From how devices communicate over the air, to how networks manage connections intelligently, to how future systems will consume less energy and share spectrum more efficiently, Ofinno’s work spans the full breadth of the next-generation standard.

Making Networks Smarter with AI
Today’s cellular networks rely on static rules to manage connections, allocate resources, and hand off users between cells. Ofinno’s researchers are working to change that. Our contributions to 3GPP’s 6G standard introduce AI-driven approaches to beam management, mobility prediction, and channel estimation — enabling networks that learn, adapt, and optimize in real time rather than following fixed procedures.
Rethinking How Devices and Networks Communicate
The protocols that govern how devices talk to networks have grown increasingly complex with each generation. Ofinno is contributing a modular approach to 6G’s control plane architecture — breaking rigid, monolithic signaling into independent, updatable modules. The result is a leaner, more flexible system that can be reconfigured without overhauling the entire protocol stack.
Building 6G Without Breaking 5G
6G will not replace 5G overnight. The two systems will need to coexist and share spectrum for years. Ofinno’s researchers are developing multi-RAT spectrum sharing frameworks that allow 6G and 5G to operate in the same frequency bands simultaneously — ensuring a smooth migration path that protects existing network investments while enabling next-generation capabilities.

Frequently-asked questions
Have questions about 6G, what Ofinno is doing to shape it, or how your company can get involved? Here are answers to the ones we hear most.
6G is the next generation of cellular technology, currently being defined through 3GPP — the same international standards body that produced 3G, 4G, and 5G. Study items are currently underway, with work items expected to begin in late 2027 and commercial deployment anticipated in the early 2030s.
5G brought major improvements in speed, latency, and capacity. 6G aims to go further by integrating AI natively into network operations, enabling simultaneous uplink and downlink through full duplex, opening new spectrum bands like 7 GHz, and introducing a more modular, flexible architecture designed to support a much wider range of devices and use cases from day one.
Ofinno is a top contributor to 3GPP, with researchers actively participating across almost all of its major working groups. Our contributions span AI-native network intelligence, modular protocol design, multi-RAT spectrum sharing for 5G/6G coexistence, subband full duplex, energy efficiency, and advanced beam management.
Ofinno’s researchers and patent professionals work side by side from day one. Inventions developed through our research are translated into high-quality patent applications closely aligned with what is actually adopted into the standard. This integrated process produces patents that are more likely to be essential and more defensible.
Yes. Ofinno works closely with partner companies, giving them first access to new inventions at a fraction of the cost of issued patents, with dedicated standards insight and prosecution support to grow portfolio value over time. Contact us to learn more.
Yes. Ofinno licenses its standard essential patents to companies whose products implement cellular standards under FRAND terms, and selectively sells patent families to companies looking to strengthen their IP position. Reach out to discuss which option fits your needs.
