At Ofinno, Chao focuses on standards and technologies for Video-based Dynamic Mesh Coding (V-DMC), a next-generation MPEG standard (ISO/IEC 23090-29). His research spans image, video, point cloud, and mesh compression, with current work pioneering new approaches in 3D Gaussian Splat compression.
Chao earned his Ph.D. in Point Cloud Compression from Télécom SudParis, Institut Polytechnique de Paris, France. Since 2018, he has been an active contributor to the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), helping shape the future of immersive media standards.
