Jae-Nam Shim is a 3GPP RAN1 delegate and researcher in 5G/6G wireless communications. He began his delegate work at LG Electronics in 2020, serving as a Technical Professional in the standards division, and has continued his contributions as Ofinno’s RAN1 delegate. His work spans multiple releases of 3GPP, including Release-17 (enhanced IAB and coverage), Release-18 (network-controlled repeater, positioning, duplex evolution), Release-19 (mobility and duplexing), as well as early 6G study items such as frame structure and spectrum sharing.
His research interests include duplexing, MIMO, frame structure, and uplink coverage enhancement. In addition to his standardization work, Jae-Nam has authored IEEE publications and is an inventor on patents in wireless communications. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Yonsei University.
