Sébastien Lasserre

Senior Principal Engineer

Sébastien has a 15-year career in research and standardization (MPEG, JCTVC, ATSC) holding standards-related positions with Canon, Technicolor, BlackBerry, Xiaomi and now Ofinno where he is Senior Principal Scientist. He received an M.S. degree in Mathematics from Universities of Strasbourg and Versailles, and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from University Paris VI Pierre et Marie Curie. He is also a former student of Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon.

Sébastien is a technical leader of research projects involved in international standardization in the domains of video compression and more recently 3D data compression and format, in particular Point Cloud Compression. He has filed more than 250 patent applications in the fields of digital audio, acoustics, video and data compression. He has contributed to technologies integrated into several products like loudspeakers or video broadcasting format.

Sébastien is an expert in the whole chain of the standardization of technologies, from upstream research and patent filing, defense of contributions and negotiation in standardization meetings, to support after adoption like edition of standard specifications, office actions and claim charts. He is currently ISO Project Leader for MPEG-I Part 41 on Geometry-based Solid Point Cloud Compression (GeSPCC).
