Shan focuses on patent preparation and prosecution in video compression technologies, including advanced compression beyond VVC capability, geometry-based point cloud compression (GPCC), and video-based dynamic mesh coding (VDMC).
Before joining Ofinno, Shan spent over a decade at law firms drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technologies for Fortune 100 companies. Prior to her legal career, Shan was a senior research scientist at a research lab focusing her research on signal processing, image/video processing, and video compression. Shan has more than 25 research papers published in prestigious journals or presented at international conferences. She is a co-inventor of more than 10 issued patents.
Shan holds a law degree, summa cum laude, from Georgia State University College of Law, where she was inducted into the Order of the Coif. She also earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, and completed her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in engineering, both with highest honors, from Tsinghua University, Beijing.
