To improve energy efficiency in the fifth generation (5G) network, 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) introduced network energy saving techniques for 5G base stations in Rel-18. In Rel-19, additional network energy saving procedures are being specified as part of 5G evolution. This paper briefly discusses the legacy 5G network energy saving schemes and elaborates on the ongoing Rel-19 enhancements for further network energy saving in the 5G advance system.
