The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) recently announced their 2022-2026 Strategic Plan. This plan centers around five key goals, the first of which is to drive U.S. innovation and global competitiveness. The strategy aims to “equip workers and companies to compete across the globe and attract foreign investment,” and solidify the country’s leadership in emerging technologies like AI, 5G, and 6G.
Notably, the strategy also mentions that the Department will “promote accessible and inclusive intellectual property (IP) protection,” with the goal of spurring innovation, development and commercialization of innovative products.
As the strategy mentions, there is an ever-growing list of industries across the economy “including manufacturing processes, transportation systems, critical infrastructure, and health,” that will require IP protection as they increase their use of connected technologies.
