Shan handles patent preparation and prosecution in technologies related to video compression standards, including enhanced compression beyond VVC capability, geometry-based point cloud compression (GPCC), and video-based dynamic mesh coding (VDMC).

Prior to joining Ofinno, Shan had over 10 years of law firm experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in a variety of technology areas for Fortune 100 companies. Before launching her legal career, Shan was a senior research scientist at a research lab focusing her research on signal processing, image/video processing, and video compression. Shan has more than 25 research papers published in prestigious journals or presented at international conferences. She is a co-inventor of more than 10 issued patents.

Shan holds a law degree from Georgia State University College of Law where she graduated summa cum laude and was inducted to the Order of the Coif. Shan also holds a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park. She received her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in engineering, both with the highest honors, from Tsinghua University, Beijing China.
